Circumcision Procedures

Circumcision Procedures

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic which will require the insertion of a needle locally around the region to be operated upon. This will render the area painless throughout the procedure.

Once the anaesthetic has had time to work, one of two methods are commonly used. These are either:

  • The Plastibell Circumcision Method or
  • The ‘Free hand’/‘Open Surgical’ Circumcision method.

The decision on which is best for any one patient is dependent upon anatomical size and age. These are the two main determinants although others may also need to be considered.

Following the procedure, it is unlikely that a bandage will be required for the Plastibell Method, however for the ‘Free Hand’ procedure a bandage is usually applied.
