Plastibell Method

The Plastibell Method

  • The area is cleaned.
  • Local anesthetic injection is given as appropriate based upon size and age of the patient.
  • Time is given for the local anaesthetic to work.
  • Surgical Clamps are applied to the foreskin.
  • Any adhesions are removed affecting the foreskin.
  • The foreskin is gently peeled off in a backwards direction.
  • Sometimes a cut to the foreskin is made to enable the foreskin to be retracted safely.
  • The Plastibell devise is now positioned.
  • The foreskin is realigned over the Plastibell device.
  • A tourniquet is now tightened which crushes the extra foreskin onto the Plastibell devise which is sitting and protecting the glans of the penis.
  • A small amount of extra skin is removed and the Plastibell devise is now left in place.
  • Within 5-8 days the Plastibell device falls off leaving a clean circumcision scar
  • A small amount or residual swelling occurs which settles over the next 3-5 days.
